USAGOLD buys gold and silver coins and bullion from the general public — not just from clients who originally purchased from us. We have been in the precious metals business since 1973, family-owned, with a five-star, zero-complaint Better Business Bureau record. The questions below cover how selling to us works; the full process is described on How to sell to USAGOLD.
Yes. USAGOLD buys gold and silver coins and bullion from the general public. Buyback service was previously offered only to clients liquidating items originally purchased through the firm; it is now open to anyone. If you are looking to liquidate all or part of your holdings, contact us with a list of what you own.
Modern gold coins and bullion: American Eagles, American Buffalos, Canadian Maple Leafs, South African Krugerrands, Australian Kangaroos, Austrian Philharmonics, Chinese Pandas, Mexican 50 Pesos, Austrian 100 Coronas, and brand-name bullion bars in 1, 10, and 100 troy ounce sizes as well as kilo bars.
Historic gold: pre-1933 United States and European gold coins.
Modern silver coins and bullion — from approved depository accounts only, including IRAs and other retirement plans: American Eagles, Canadian Maple Leafs, Australian Koalas, and brand-name bullion bars in 10, 100, and 1,000 troy ounce sizes.
If you hold something not listed here, contact us with a list of your holdings and we will tell you whether we can make an offer.
Yes — the minimum transaction is 10 troy ounces of gold or 500 troy ounces of silver.
Contact us with a list of your holdings. On most transactions you receive a purchase-order confirmation and shipping instructions the same or next business day. Your package contents are then verified under camera at an independent third-party depository before settlement.
Payment is wired to you, typically within five to seven business days from the date your metals are received, on most sell orders.
Buyback prices are quoted relative to the prevailing spot price at the time your sale is confirmed, and vary by product — bullion coins, bars, and historic pre-1933 coins each carry different bid levels. We publish live spot pricing site-wide and quote firm buyback prices when you contact us with your list, so you can compare our bid against the market before committing. USAGOLD does not publish a fixed spot-relative formula because bids move with the market and the product.
On gold transactions, shipping is free — the cost is rebated as part of the proceeds from the purchase. You receive shipping instructions with your purchase-order confirmation.
No. We buy from the general public regardless of where the metals were originally purchased, provided the items are on our buy list and meet the transaction minimum.
Package contents are verified under camera at an independent third-party depository. This protects both sides: an objective record of exactly what arrived, reviewed before settlement.
Yes. We specialize in large estate and investment-portfolio liquidations, including self-directed precious metals IRAs. For large bulk transactions we offer insured special arrangements for pick-ups at approved non-residential locations. CPAs, attorneys, and investment advisors handling a liquidation are welcome to contact us directly.
USAGOLD does not provide tax advice. Whether a sale creates a reportable or taxable event depends on your circumstances — consult your tax professional before selling.
