We have an extremely small lot, only 120 of the 20 Franc coins (.1867 oz.) and 60 of the 40 Franc coins (.3734 oz.) available. Because of the limited nature of this offer, only 10 or fewer of each coin will be available to each buyer. These groups are in Very Fine/Extra Fine condition, with the majority of the original coin detail still visible. It's difficult to emphasize just how hard it is to come by lots of this scarcity and historical significance in today's market. Given their competitive price, this is certainly one of the best values we've had in years. To supplement this offer, we've also secured another small lot of French 100 Franc gold coins (40 Angels and 40 Napoleon III) in Almost Uncirculated condition. These hefty specimens (.9335 oz.) are comparable to the U.S. $20 gold pieces. With U.S. coin premiums currently residing in the 55% range, the 35% premium on the French 100 Francs makes for a much more attractively priced alternative. Furthermore, the 100 Franc coins were minted in significantly lower quantities, with only 425,000 Napoleon III and 535,000 Angels known to exist. We are limiting purchases to 10 coins of each per customer as well for this portion of the offer. As always, orders will be filled
on a first-come, first-served basis. Orders filled on a first-come, first-served basis - Pay by credit card, personal check or bank wire - FREE SHIPPING on orders of $2000 or more.
Historical commentary (from Wikipedia): Napoleon Bonaparte (15 August 1769 - 5 May 1821) later known as Emperor Napoleon I, was a military and political leader of France whose actions shaped European politics in the early 19th century. Born in Corsica and trained as an artillery officer in mainland France, Bonaparte rose to prominence under the First French Republic and led successful campaigns against the First and Second Coalitions arrayed against France. In 1799, he staged a coup d'état and installed himself as First Consul; five years later he crowned himself Emperor of the French. In the first decade of the nineteenth century, he turned the armies of the French Empire against every major European power and dominated continental Europe through a series of military victories. He maintained France's sphere of influence by the formation of extensive alliances and the appointment of friends and family members to rule other European countries as French client states. The French invasion of Russia in 1812 marked a turning point in Napoleon's fortunes. His Grande Armée was badly damaged in the campaign and never fully recovered. In 1813, the Sixth Coalition defeated his forces at Leipzig; the following year the Coalition invaded France, forced Napoleon to abdicate and exiled him to the island of Elba. Less than a year later, he escaped Elba and returned to power, but was defeated at the Battle of Waterloo in June 1815. Napoleon spent the last six years of his life under British supervision on the island of Saint Helena. |
