These coins are some of the scarcest we have ever had the privilege of offering. The surviving population is unknown, but only 900,000 coins were originally struck during their mintage from 1855-1868. Remarkably, however, we think you'll find their pricing to be very attractive. With a gold content of just below a half-ounce, these coins are most similar to the well known United States $10 Liberty and Indian gold pieces, but with two distinct differences. First, the total mintage of the French 50 Franc is less than any single year's mintage of the $10 gold coins. And second, the premium on the French 50 Francs is markedly less than either of the American counterparts, despite its comparative rarity. This makes for an excellent opportunity to acquire 19th century gold coins at an attractive premium, and to also add long term historic value potential to your gold portfolio! Due to the very limited number
of coins available, we will be capping orders at a maximum of
50 coins. Quantity discounts are available, and free shipping
for orders of $2000 or more. Orders filled on a first-come, first-served basis - Pay by credit card, personal check or bank wire - FREE SHIPPING on orders of $2000 or more.
Historical commentary: Napoleon III (1808-1873) was the nephew of Napoleon Bonaparte and Emperor of France from 1852 to 1870. Napoleon III strove to restore the glory of France to the lofty stature attained under his famous uncle, but his rule was undermined by a succession of political blunders including rifts with the Vatican over papal lands and French industry over his free trade policy with England. In the Franco-Prussian War of 1870, in part due to the disunity at home, he met defeat at the hands of the Prussians near Sedan. Within days, the weakened Napoleon III was unseated by a new revolution and he left France for England where he died, failing to restore the glory of Napoleonic France. |
