Austria 100 Schilling
Duch King Guilder

Minted 1926 - 1934
Fineness: .900
Actual Gold Content: .6806 troy oz

The Austrian 100 Schilling is one of the most extraordinary historic European coins in existence. In the historic era, coins featuring proof or proof-like finishes were not as commonplace as they are today. Only a few mints worldwide were willing to engage in the extensive (and expensive) minting process it took to create a proof finish (special dies and multiple strikes), simply so that its coins would be more beautiful - especially considering most coins being produced in that era were expected to be used as currency in general circulation. Given that fact, it should come as no surprise that a mere 392,472 Austrian 100 Schillings were produced from 1926-1934, making them one of the rarest European historic coin issues. Their original proof-like luster still shines in the Brilliant Uncirculated coins offered here, despite their nearly century-old age. NGC places a retail value of $1350 per coin in similar condition, making our price of roughly $1075 per coin an exceptional deal by comparison. Only 50 coins available.

As an aside, these 100 Schillings came from from the same estate as the Russian Roubles last month, and represent only the second such offering in our 40+ year company history.

Denmark 10 Kroner ‘Mermaid'

British Sov Sets

Minted -1873, 1874, 1877, 1890, 1898 and 1900
Fineness: .900
Actual Gold Content: .1296 troy ounce

The Denmark 10 Kroner ‘Mermaids’ as they are colloquially referred, don’t actually feature the image a mermaid at all. Rather, the reverse features a seated Lady Liberty figure with a porpoise resting at her feet. The way the porpoise blends at the base of her feet gives the look of a mermaid at a glance. It shouldn’t be surprising that these coins would come to be known as ‘Mermaids’, as it was the Danish author by the name of Hans Christian Anderson who originally penned the fairy tale ‘The Little Mermaid’ in 1837, from which the Disney movie was adapted. It is also the subject of the country’s most visited tourist attraction, a bronze statue known by the same name. Without a doubt, Denmark ‘Mermaids’ are a consensus favorite amongst historic gold coin owners and are widely considered to be one of the most uniquely beautiful coins ever produced. Minted sporadically in the later years of the 20th century, the 10 Kroner ‘Mermaids’ saw a total production of just 922,000 coins, so it should come as no surprise that they rarely surface, and when they do, only in very limited quantities. NGC prices the coins anywhere from $450-$650 a piece in the BU condition of those offered here, making our price of roughly $260/coin a stunning value. Only 125 coins available.

This month’s raffle will be for a Denmark 10 Kroner Mermaid in BU condition dated 1873, which is the first year of production for the 10 Kroner Mermaids. The vast majority of the coins offered here are dated 1900, so this adds a little history and intrigue to the ‘prize’ for participants spending in excess of $2500.00.

Additional raffle tickets will be awarded for investments in excess of $25,000 and $50,000, but no entry will have more than three tickets in play, giving everyone who participates a reasonable chance to win, yet offering some added incentive to those who may find a particular offer especially enticing.

French 50 Franc Napoleon III

French 50 Franc
Minted 1855 - 1868
Fineness: .900
Actual Gold Content: .46675 troy ounce

Owning a unique space in the historic coin market as the most affordable 19th century era ‘big’ coin, these roughly half ounce 150+ years old French 50 Francs rarely surface. From an era when larger coins were an anomaly, their only contemporary counterpart would be civil war era U.S. $10 gold pieces, which even in a heavily circulated grade, trade for thousands of dollars a piece and vast multiples to their underlying gold value. And that said, just 894,000 50 Francs were struck over their roughly 15 year production, making them technically ‘rarer' than $10 gold pieces, despite their much more attractive acquisition price. This batch consists of coins in strong XF/AU+ condition, featuring striking detail on the surfaces of the coins, and a eye-pleasing retention of original luster. Only 50 coins available.

French 20 Franc Angel

British Sov Sets

Minted 1848-49, 1871-1906
Fineness: .900
Actual Gold Content: .1867 troy ounce

For this month’s ‘bullion-type’ inclusion, we are pleased to offer a larger group (500 coins) of the always popular French Angel 20 Franc coins in superb AU/UNC condition at a 3% discount to normal pricing. These discounts push the coins well below the cost (on a per ounce basis) of a 1/10 ounce modern US Eagle, and once factoring in resale value, push the cost below that of a 1/4 ounce modern product as well. In such context, these 'historic-bullion' fractional Angels undeniably represent the best overall value in the small fractional coin market today. Negotiability, portability, divisibility, and added protection against government intervention risk and capital controls moving forward - a safe-haven accumulator's dream.
