The USAGOLD "Private Reserve"
(a selection of scarce European gold coins)

European gold
----

In the course of processing many thousands of coins every week, we occasionally come across rare specimens in otherwise common lots. Over time, these have been pulled aside piece by piece and compiled into what is arguably the most enviable collection of scarce European coin varieties known. And though we'd love to keep them all for ourselves (and we certainly have tried as long as we could), this collection has simply grown too large. So, it is not without a certain degree of reluctance that we announce the first-ever release of a very small portion of the USAGOLD Private Reserve for our May Special!

Perhaps you can follow in our footsteps, and begin to compile your own private reserve. This month's offer would be a great place to start. A quick glance at the list below and you will understand just how exceptional this opportunity is.

Though these coins are undoubtedly some of the scarcest European varieties known, we think you'll find their pricing to be very generous. Comparably priced to more common European coins, and significantly less expensive than historic American coins, the relative value is unmistakable.

Act quickly as this offer is first-come, first-served, and very limited. Feel free to Mix-n-Match the coins in your order, however, we are restricting orders to a maximum of 25 coins for each variety (i.e., 100 coins as a maximum total).

340 Uncirculated Denmark 20 Kroners
Frederick VIII, and Christian X

Fineness: .900
Actual Gold Content: .2592 troy ounce

The mintage of these two coins spanned just 10 years, five years each, from 1908-1917. Total mintage on the Frederick is just below 1.2 million, and the Christian 3.6 million. The Scandanavian coins are highly coveted by collectors and prove to be some of the most difficult European coins to acquire.

120 Uncirculated Netherlands 10 Guilders
Queen Wilhelmina "Long Hair"

Fineness: .900
Actual Gold Content: .1947 troy ounce

This is the scarcest coin in this group, with only 454,000 coins struck in the one year of production, 1897. These coins are so hard to come by, it is difficult to know just how much they are worth. That said, though, the Standard Catalog of World Gold Coins (SCWGC) suggests they are worth roughly three times the value of their gold content. That would suggest the value today would be $500 or more.

185 Uncirculated German 20 Marks
Wilhelm II "Military Bust"

Fineness: .900
Actual Gold Content: .2304 troy ounce

Only 3.4 million of these coins were minted in the brief three year period of production (1913-1915), with the majority of the 1.3 million minted in 1915 never seeing the light of day because of the onset of WWI. Surviving populations are much lower than the stated mintage, which has resulted in the SCWGC placing a per coin value of $235. This value is based on a spot price of gold at $410 per ounce, suggesting that at today's price of gold, the these coins would valued closer to $500 or more.

200 Extra Fine French 20 Francs
Louis XVIII

Fineness: .900
Actual Gold Content: .1867 troy ounce

Louis XVIII immediately followed Napoleon in ruling France, making these coins an excellent companion for those who participated in last month's offer. Though close to 10 million coins were struck in the eight years of mintage (1816-1824), far fewer are known to have survived into the modern era given their age. As a result, most dates are valued at $150 in XF condition by SCWGC, once again at a spot price of gold at $410, suggesting current value would be closer to $350 or higher for many dates.
